Short Project Description:
Underhazer is a single-player FPS adventure based on a cute-horror Y2K dreamcore art style. After her best friend Wisty’s suicide, 17-year-old Nyla and her Tamagotchi pet are pulled into Undergrid, a nightmarish realm where her repressed memories and emotions come to life. Players must take the Tamagotchi weapon and engage in combat with enemies to discover the mystery of Wisty’s death.
Design Pillars:
Tamagotchi Partner
Accompanied by a Tamagotchi-style partner inside the weapon. Interactions include feeding candies, blood, and customizing head accessories. The Tamagotchi partner provides feedback to the player by reloading and transforming the weapon.
Uncover Mystery
The full story of Wisty’s suicide isn’t directly explained to the player. Players need to uncover the truth by exploring levels, collecting memory fragments, and defeating enemies/bosses. The narrative is pieced together through player interpretation and discovery.
Cute Vs. Horror
Underhazer’s art style blends cute elements with horror It features unnatural, cute imagery placed in eerie or inappropriate contexts. Dreamcore-inspired environments that creates a surreal, unsettling vibe and fuel curiosity and exploration.
