Week 1 - Welcome to D&D&D

Hello and welcome!
I’m looking forward to having you all in class and designing using the awesomeness of Dungeons and Dragons. We will be creating characters, environments, props and designing stories using an industrial design process mixed in with the sensibilities of table top role playing games. Check back here often because I will be constantly updating it with resources for you to use!

Your first homework assignment is to design your character! Here’s a quick rundown of what is expected:

Design your hero

  • Decide on the details of your character

    • Name

    • Race or Species

    • Class or occupation

    • Ability scored (STR, DEX, WIS, INT, CON, CHA)

    • Write at least 2 paragraphs about your character. Tell me what they like and don’t like, what motivates them, what they fear, what they want, what they need, what their flaws are and where they come from. Feel free to add anything else to the mix. Try to make the paragraphs imaginative and compelling.

  • Style reference

    • 1 - 2 pages of art style you want to explore for your character

  • Character Design and Portrait (11in x 17in; 150dpi; JPEG; B/W)

    • At least 1 page of reference images for your character (no artwork allowed)

    • At least 2 pages of sketches (at least 5 drawings per page)

    • 1 more refined drawing of your character (front; posing)

    • 1 more refined drawing of your character portrait

  • Create a character card (1920px x 960px) for your hero including:

    • Name

    • Race or Species

    • Class or occupation

    • Ability scores (Stats)

    • Portrait

This assignment is due by the next class meeting. Please submit them to the dropbox using the submission link on the main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at fernando.olmedo@artcenter.edu
